WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM POLE FITNESS

Pole fitness is a fantastic way to tone your body, lose weight, increase your self-confidence and overall empowerment. Enjoy the alternative way to get healthy, challenge yourself and achieve your goals.

Our classes will improve your strength and flexibility as well as help you to lose weight. You can start as a complete beginner, even if you have never done any form of exercise or have ‘two left feet’. Get stronger and fitter and most of all, have fun while doing it.

Classes start at the basic level and are designed to suit all fitness levels. They consist of 60-90 minute classes which include a warm-up, conditioning, learning moves/combos followed by a cool down.

Our classes are made up of all ages, shapes and sizes but best of all, the pole community is a wonderful community to be a part of. Our community is supportive, non-judgemental, caring and just simply incredible.

No experience is required and you progress at your own pace.

In 2017, Pole was officially recognised as a sport and the International Pole Sports Federation (IPSF) is constantly working on the steps in order to make Pole and Aerial Sports eligible to become an Olympic Sport.

The IPSF is made up of 32 federations around the world including South Africa.  For more information head on over to the South Africa Pole Sports Federation (SAPSF) page.

Increased Strength

Pole dancing is a full body workout which involves repeatedly lifting your own body weight working your upper body, core and thighs.

Increase Flexibility

The importance of flexibility is often overlooked. Being flexible makes you healthier in many ways; it reduces your risk of muscle injury and minimizes muscle soreness.

Increased Cardiovascular Health

Having a healthy heart lowers the risk or heart disease, strokes and heart attacks.

Better Body Confidence

After a few months of pole dancing, you’ll definitely notice a change in your body. You’ll be stronger, your muscles will feel firmer and you’ll be less fatigued. With this comes increased body confidence.

Lose Weight And Burn calories

Pole dancing can burn the same number of calories in 30 minutes as aerobics or callisthenics.

Improved Coordination And Rhythm

Your natural rhythm and style will come with practice.

How did I get into pole: I saw a pole dancing video that went viral a few years ago. The woman, Karo Swen, moved in such a graceful but strong way that it was absolutely enchanting to watch. The pole dancing spark was ignited and when I moved in across from the pole studio, I took it as a sign and started my my first pole class in September 2016.

What do I love most about pole: The freedom, focus and clarity I feel when I’m spinning and moving around the pole.

Why do I teach pole: Pole is my passion and I try to transfer that passion to every student, then each student’s victory becomes my own too. There’s nothing that can compare to the joy you see in a student’s face when they get a new pole move, or learn a new routine, or see themselves become strong.

Favourite Trick: Favourites change from time to time, but I always keep coming back to the Remi lean-back. I think it’s safe to say it’s my, “signature trick”.

How I got into pole: A friend had her birthday party at a pole studio

What do I love most about pole: Training for comps and shows

Why do I teach pole: My brain is good at deciphering things. So by using a logical approach, I can teach my students fun ways to get into moves.

Fav trick: Frodo

How you got into pole? After an ankle injury, I missed being able to dance. Pole dancing as an alternative option worked perfectly for me as I didn’t have any impact on the ankle and I could still stay fit and get strong and express myself to music in a new fun way.

What you love the most about pole? When I found pole, it exposed me to a community of supportive and encouraging people. I have made so many wonderful friends. It was also the first time my strength was celebrated and I started to really appreciate all the things that my body could do.

Why do you teach? I love being able to share my skills and knowledge that I have learned and supporting others to realise that they are capable of defying gravity **queue song:defying gravity**

Favourite trick? Ayesha (or anything upside down really)
